Birdathon event for families

  • Topaz Farm 17100 NW Sauvie Island Rd Portland, OR 97231 United States (map)

Spend your morning with Bird Alliance of Oregon staff member Kady Davis and Board Member Ricky Allen for a community birdwatching event.

Come get your wiggles out, learn about local bird species, and borrow our binoculars to spot some cool birdies while enjoying time outside.

Pack a picnic blanket, pick up some snacks from the Topaz Farm Bar & Grill, and join us on the lawn. A short guided walk around the farm will start around 11. This walk will be led by Ricky, who is an expert in Sauvie Island's bird species.

Beginners and expert birders welcome!

Team Leaders:

Ricky Allen has been birding on Sauvie Island for over 20 years. Ricky taught at Whitaker Middle School and Jefferson High School, was Vice Principal at Reynolds High School, and was a founding member of Self Enhancement Inc. all while educating and exposing kids of color to birdwatching and nature. Ricky is retired now and currently an active Board Member of the Bird Alliance of Oregon and plans to continue to share the wonderful experience of birdwatching with kids of color.

Kady is a beginner-level birder and this will be her second year participating but first year leading a Birdathon event! Kady has been a staff member of the Bird Alliance of Oregon since 2023 as a Development Officer. She loves bird noticing while spending time outdoors as a way to slow down and practice mindfulness in nature alongside her two young toddlers.
