Grown by Our Family, Right Here on Sauvie Island
We’re passionate about raising and sharing local, pasture-raised meats for Northwest families like ours. Our beef is raised by our relatives — Christine and Nick Schillereff — at Oak Island Farms, just down the road from Topaz Farm here on Sauvie Island. Together, our families are committed to slow, natural farming practices that prioritize animal welfare, soil health, and flavor.
The Schillereffs’ raise their cattle on “island time” — free from hormones, animal by-products and routine antibiotics. They grow their own feed, manage every animal from birth to butcher, and use low-stress handling that fosters a calm, humane environment. The result is beef that is flavorful, tender, and raised with integrity.
Our beef is processed in local, USDA-inspected facilities that are family-owned and operated. Each cut of Oak Island Farms beef is fully traceable to a single animal raised right here on Sauvie Island by our extended family.
Our Environmental Stewardship
Beef Raised in Cohesion with Nature
Our families work closely with local wildlife and conservation groups to graze island pastures in ways that foster wild bird habitat, control runoff, reduce bank erosion, and preserve Sauvie Island’s native meadowlands. By raising cattle in harmony with nature, we help sustain the island’s ecosystems while producing delicious, nutrient-rich beef.
Cattle are extraordinary converters of solar energy — turning island grasses we can’t eat into nourishing proteins we can. Oak Island Farms beef is good for you, your family, and the planet.
