Mother’s Day weekend: May 8th

We are busy planting. Everything is full of hope. No deer have eaten a field of strawberries yet.

When we look out our window first thing in the morning, we no longer see frost. In fact we’ve moved back into our early routines. Irrigation is the first thing and the last thing we do each day now. It is a beautiful sight to see five fields being watered at once.

We keep adding things to the fields, ignoring our plans (similar to what we did in the greenhouses). This week, that included adding lots of leeks to one of our new drip fields, where we also planted tomatoes, spinach, kale and chard.

Chefs Janelle and Christian brought us a picnic basket of the items they are making for Mother’s day picnic boxes. Wow I missed their food. The Mother’s Day farm to plate picnic boxes are almost sold out, but don’t worry, we will also have some other amazing food Mother’s Day weekend. Chop sandwiches are back, along with some new grab and go picnic boxes.

Here are some scenes from the month, including videos of our animals with the zoomies:

Yet another broken irrigation line. Hard to know if it’s the age of the lines or the PSI, which we’ve adjusted down.

Mix coffee husks in. You don’t want them too wet. More like a damp sponge, that when you squeeze, liquid doesn’t come out.

After two weeks of fermenting, it’s ready to use. Spread on fields, or use to breakdown compost.
