Spring!

Yesterday I saw my first Osprey of the season! I was so glad Jim was with me when I spotted them soaring over the water. There is something very exciting about their triumphant return. Usually the Swallows return to the island the same week as the Osprey. With snow expected later this week, I’m not sure what to expect. (Right after posting this, I saw dozens of swallows flying around the farm, they’re back!)

Yesterday’s weather (and first day of spring) was amazing. And no animal drama! Today we are starting to build a few new stalls for our daughter’s 4H lambs. She’s going to pick up the first one from Prineville this weekend and the other two will be here once they wean from their mommas.

The transition to Spring always feels exciting and hopeful. Of course I am already having trouble keeping up with everything we have to do. Which is why this week’s blog is mostly photos that Morgan took this week. Happy Spring!

Eagle update: ODFW confirmed the dead eagle that was found a few weeks ago died of avian flu. The bird flu is still very strong. In fact the folks at ODFW told me this bird flu is world-wide and been going for over a year. It’s considered to be the worst bird pandemic in their lifetime. They are hoping it’s finally peaked, but aren’t quite ready to stay that for sure.
