Weekly Update: Nov 15

We celebrated our niece’s 10th birthday this week. So many of you saw her working hard all season in the greenhouses, the fields and the store. She continues to help us when she’s not doing online school. This photo of her driving is one of my new favorites photos of her.

Before we bought the farm, I never thought much about farm life or farm families. My perspective has changed so much over the past year. Where I might have joked about how horrible it would be to be surrounded by family 24/7 in the past, now it’s up there as one of my very favorite parts of our new adventure working with two of our daughters, my father, brother and niece.

This week, we were able to get a lot more prep for next year done. Luis has started to tie up all the cane berries. Jose has been laying plastic and mulch around the greenhouses to hopefully lessen the amount of weeding we’ll need to do next year. Peter has started building a new animal pen (more on that soon!). Maggie was working to gather art and crafts for our holiday market. I said “was,” because with the Governor’s order we will not be opening next week for a holiday market.

We will still offer our Thanksgiving boxes, but now we’ll meet customers in the parking lot and hand out meals curbside. Of course, we don’t mind if you choose to park and say hello to Maybe Bob and family. We printed a bunch of holiday cards before the announcement was made, so if you’re interested in buying any, we’re happy to pass them out when we’re handing out the Thanksgiving dinners. Just make sure you buy them online by Tuesday, Nov 24. Here is the ordering link.

We also have just posted seven Farm To Plate meals and picnics for 2021. Each will be Covid-19 safe, like the 2020 series. Janelle and Christian have become family this year, which makes announcing that they will be our chefs again next season even more exciting.
